Emerging from False Refuge
In tibetan buddhism, renunciation is best translated as “emergence from false refuge”. Now as you may know, when you commit to buddhism you also commit to taking refuge in The Three Treasures: the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha.  So what does it mean to take refuge in anything? What does emergence mean? Life has many demands, many trials, and many issues. Refuge is where we go to...

Anonymous asked: I understand worrying is a waste of time and it means one is not living in the present. What would you tell someone who is worried about a huge financial debt? I know, money is such a superficial thing to be worried about, but it isn't that I want it, it's the fact that I owe it.
I love you blog and thank you for all you do!

What is Grassroot Tantra?
I guess it’s time to address my blog’s name change. First let us dispel the dubious associations with the word ‘tantra’.  Like most words flung from east to west, much was lost in translation. In tantric art, deities are portrayed in sexual union. Sometimes sex is used as a metaphor in tantric scriptures. Many like the idea of sacred sex and use the word tantra to describe...

The First Prerequisite to Practicing Tantra
“When I talk of being detached what I mean is to be simpler, more easy-going. Detachment does not mean totally renouncing everything. It means that you loosen your grip and be more relaxed. There are many pleasures available in the world, but as long as you are uptight and anxious, fearfully holding onto your money and possessions, your wealth will only make you more and more unhappy. If...

The Intent Behind a Tantric Path
Tantra is the hot blood of spiritual practice. It smashes the taboo against unreasonable happiness; a thunderbolt path, swift, joyful, and fierce. There are many different types of paths. Some touch you like a gentle spring rain, but Tantra is the wild summer thunder storm churning with creation, destruction, bliss and emptiness. Tantra is a wild mother tiger - if you approach her with right...

Initiation
bodhigita: The Bodhi Gita says: “Who can initiate who into what; When what is who and who is what?” An entry from the seldom used co-blog I do with my brother tantric yogi Hathanath. It will slowly become our divine-inspired modern scripture.

How to Meet Gods and Restructure Irreality;...
The best way to understand a god is to translate his or her attributes into your own cultural context. Shiva, for example, could be likened to a blissful homeless man covered in bugs and piss, smoking weed and bending reality at will.  Above is my translation of Kali. She is the creepy but pretty girl leading you to the noose, and at the same time the Dark Tree from which the rope hangs.  ...

Intelligence vs. Spirituality
usgroovykids: ““You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don’t be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.”” — House This is funny but it is also how most intelligent people view spirituality. It...

Kali - My Adopted Grandmother
Kali is the consort of Lord Shiva, the wild jungle tantric yogi. Where he is emblematic of liberation through the masculine principle, Kali represents liberation through the female principle. To Him, the Great Stillness. To Her, the Ecstatic Void. I find it strange and uncomfortable to treat a deity like a mother or father. It just doesn’t work for me. It seems like the practice of a...

re: One Heart is Better than Two
Yes, but not in terms of marital status. There is only one heart that humanity shares. It is the embodiment of love in action. Dividing the idea of love in your mind, saying here’s one heart loving another, is an illusion that is one step removed from unity. It makes love into an exclusive thing, defined by who doesn’t get it just as much as those who do get it.  But with one heart,...

Rapid Catch Up
I had been planning on writing this epic post about my second shroom experience from a few weeks ago and some other stuff but figured I’d ditch the pretense.  It all started two weeks ago when I went to a guru event in NYC. She wasn’t my guru but she was a guru. Whenever I go to her events, she usually puts me in touch with Shiva. I left with a strong line to Him. After a week of...

Anonymous asked: I cannot help but feel that Guruji's reaction is not very enlightened. Sure we shouldn't contemplate over a realized beings actions, but I feel as if going into a form of self masochism until he dies/gets his way is not the way to go.

Though, I hope only for the best in his situation.

A Strange Situation You Can Help by Simply Knowing...
I implore my compassionate followers to read and reblog this link.  Guru Dilemma I don’t know what to think about this situation and dispute over lands. It is unacceptable and yet not worth losing the life of a fantastic guru over it. Then again, it is not for us to contemplate the motives of self-realized saints.
