The human condition is possessed by a marked sense of lack. We are always feeling like there is something that the moment is lacking and so we are continually looking to the future to satisfy this. 

The nature of satisfaction is non-dual. When you become one with that which you desire through gratification, you experience a taste of non-duality. Sex is the greatest act of non-duality that the physical realm can offer. The root chakra is the the summation of the physical realm. 

Sex isn’t something to reject or overcome. It is just a part of the song. But when you come to realize that you contain both genders within you, you move beyond the physical. You no longer depend on the opposite sex to help balance out your gender polarities. This is also part of the tantric way, unifying your concepts of male/female to understand through experience that you are the source of both energies you feel in your life. 

When you are stressed, depressed, or whatever and therefore crave sex, you are trying to find a way to escape duality. It is an expression of a divine urge but aiming at the lower. If you can go inward, you will find all you need. Sex will be satisfying and sometimes transformative. But in the end, it points you toward the same moon. Go inward.
