yukey asked: Do you think it is possible to live as part of society without an ego?
An ego is a tool, it is not something inherently terrible. It is when you confuse your identity to BE the ego that you encounter suffering.
My guru explains that all enlightened beings who maintain an identity for worldly purposes and to pass on teachings have an ego, what he calls a sattvic ego. It is very minimal but still present, for it is necessary in order to maintain touch with the body’s physical existence.
Therefore, it is definitely possible to live in society as a self-realized being. But without an ego, what is living in society? Only an ego can live in society. When there is no ego, there is no society to live in.
However, this is my aim. My path is not one that is separate from a life in society. Although running away to an ashram is definitely an appealing thought at times. :P
