youngradiolarians asked: I have a few questions in regards to picking a mantra for oneself: Is there such a thing as a bad mantra? Is it unusual to have more than one depending on the situation or should I stick with just one? How much thought should I actually put into the mantra that I eventually choose?
Thought can help you choose a mantra but what ultimately matters is heart. How does the mantra resound within you? How does it feel? It need not be perfect and magical but just comfortable. Mantra and meaning deepen with actual practice and meditation.
I’m no scholar on mantras so I can’t say all are good but most you will find when googling will be perfectly safe to use.
I like Ram Dass’ perspective on mantra meditation, which can be found here.
Stick with one until you get the hang of it but don’t strong-arm yourself if you feel inclined to change it. Just don’t be too back and forth about it.
Namaste!
