lotusoflife asked: Hello lazyyogi, I would like to ask you what is the difference between Taoism and Buddhism. I am new to spirituality and I am currently only learning. So apologies if this questions seems irrelevant. Thank you and namaste
Taoism originated in China whereas Buddhism came from India and spread through Tibet, China, and Japan.
Buddhism says that to have a body is to suffer and that suffering is the symptom of impermanence. To find peace, you must go inward and find the permanent, your Real Self.
Taoism sees everything like a melody. The melody of the Cosmos and all things in it is called the Great Tao. The melodies of the things within the cosmos are called taos. In taoism, you come into harmony with things as they are, not as you wish or believe them to be.
This is very, very simplified.
Zen is a mixture of taoism and buddhism. There is taoist naturalness combined with buddhist Peace. I find zen to be a beautiful and near perfect way of life.
Namaste :)

I just wanted to point out that buddhism proclaims anata or ‘no self’ the fact that there is no permanent abiding ‘self’. buddhism has as its foundation the four noble truths and the eightfold path of right living to destroy suffering.

But in the end it comes down to the “no self” versus “true self” teachings, which actually are the same thing from a slightly different angle. But I still disagree with the use of the word “permanent” as this implies time, which is also a trap ;-)

I thought there was no self in buddhism, to find the Real self seems more like Hinduism spirituality.
