Mindfulness and Zen

For the first week of the lazy yogi spirituality challenge we will focus on practice. Part of the beauty of the zen school was that it emphasized directness over philosophy.

The following are three practical techniques that should be done daily this week.

1) When you first wake in the morning, belt out a hearty laugh. Even if you aren’t feeling so good, laugh anyway. It has a way of effecting the tone of the whole day.

2) Find ten minutes to meditate each day.

3) Whenever you find yourself doing simple tasks like showering, driving, walking, let your attention rest on your breath. Inhabit your body and relax with the breath instead of toying with the mind.

This is the weekly curriculum. On top of this, I will be posting something new to consider and try out each day.

If you want to write journal entries about your experience with this challenge, I would love to read them. I am tracking the tag #lazyyogispiritualitychallenge and any post with that tag I will read.

Namaste :)
