First even before waking up it is important to go to sleep the right way. Many people fall asleep with the tv on, the computer in bed, or some other  form of distraction. This is because their minds are restless and restlessness only finds release in activity. If you fall asleep like this, you will wake up with the same restlessness

Maybe 30 minutes before bed, turn everything off and veg out. Perhaps listen to some music or read a bit of a book. Then lay in bed and drift off.

When you wake up, don’t just leap out of bed and go about your day. As your eyes open, pause. Don’t evaluate today; don’t dwell on yesterday. Just get in touch with your body. Feel it from the inside out, like you are wearing your body as a suit. Slowly sit up, maybe stretching if you feel so inclined.

Then sit for a brief meditation, maybe five minutes. It sets the tone for the entire day. Relax, be still, and let everything just flow out of you. In that moment, there is nowhere to be and nothing to do other that abiding in this instance of existence.

Once the meditation is over, continue your usual morning routine. However, don’t rush mindlessly through it. Move slowly and smoothly but with intent and efficiency. Be mindful of every toothbrush stroke, the feeling of shampoo in your hands, the sound your clothes make as you put them on. All of it.

When we are rushed, we feel a bit claustrophobic as if we have no personal space. But when you are the one to set the pace for your life, without falling behind, then you will feel at ease and untouchable.

Give it a try for a few days :) Let me know how it works out.

Namaste!
