The Lazy Yogi

When I was in high school, I was diagnosed with ADD and given medication. I took it every day during 10th grade and got straight A’s. I also didn’t ever go out over the weekends or feel like socializing. 

I forgot to take my meds one day and had an amazing day, talking and laughing spontaneously with the prettiest girl in school and goofing around with my friends at lunch. 

After that, I stopped taking my meds every day. 

In college, I learned meditation and eventually started meditating a half hour every day. I got mostly A’s and didn’t need meds.

Now I meditate an hour every day and everyone else looks restless and ADD to me. 

Not to down play learning disabilities, as I come from a family with many learning disabled individuals. But meds are expensive and meditation is free. I think it makes a helpful difference. 

I thought it was worth sharing, in case any of my readers are learning disabled. Focus and attention simply means being where you are without wandering off mentally elsewhere. 

It takes practice, daily, but then it becomes natural.
